Port Ludlow residents enjoy the constant change that having four seasons brings to the natural environment. However, we also enjoy the fact that all the seasons are pleasant. The Olympic Mountains and marine influence moderate the climate in Port Ludlow so that both summer and winter are mild.

Although Port Ludlow's latitude is about the same as the northmost tip of Maine, Port Ludlow's climate is much warmer. Most of Maine's normal high termperatures in January are lower than most of Port Ludlow's normal low temperatures in January.

Rainfall

Port Ludlow is located in the rainshadow of the Olympic Mountains, along with Port Townsend, Sequim, Hansville, parts of Whidbey Island, and the San Juan Islands.

This means that the Olympic Mountains block most of the rain. On the rare occasions that Western Washington ends up in the path of a strong weather system, it hits the Olympics and usually parts, going north along the Strait of Juan de Fuca, south through Olympia, and converging on Everett on the other side of Puget Sound.
